I can honestly say that Karla E. Pena Zapata has been one of the most influential teachers in my life. The Yucatan Immersion program was by far the most enjoyable and life changing experience in my college career. My understanding of and appreciation for the human family we all share was truly broadened and deepened in the time I spent learning and living in the Yucatan. Even now, three years after returning, my competence in the Spanish language remains strong and continues to help me connect and converse with people from all corners of the earth and all walks of life. The foundation of language skills, anthropological curiosity, and open-mindedness that is cultivated and fostered in the PICY program is unparalleled in cultural immersion programs. I am grateful to have been a part of such an exceptional and life-changing program.
