Description
Language and family provides the perfect match of structured advancement in the language and a natural context in which to practice your newly acquired skills. With the focus in language, there is a variety of options to take a Spanish class for a specific purpose. The experience of interacting, participating and living with a family and attending language classes naturally complement each other. The class gives you vocabulary, themes and strategies to try out at the dinner table, and in turn the conversations and experiences with the family provide interesting topics for classroom discussions.

"You make connections between things that we went over in class and then you go to the museum, “oh that’s what that is”, or you go, uh, downtown and “oh, that’s what that is” or you see “oh that’s the dance we were talking about? You know, it was like reading a text book, but live."

Description
Total immersion is the quickest way to acquire a new language in a practical form. You learn as children do: through necessity, questioning, curiosity and lots and lots of practice. Our total immersion program provides a strong cultural focus, allowing the participant to acquire a functional level of Spanish in order to become a global citizen (ASICA) with more than one perspective. You will have the ability to examine your own culture from a new perspective while experiencing a new one from within.
ASICA (Agente Social, Intercultural, Autónomo)
What others may refer to as a “global citizen,” we prefer to call an Autonomous, Social Intercultural Agent. This term refers to a person who is an agent of interculturalism. Someone who has the tools and strategies to work independently, the capacity to interact appropriately within many diverse sectors of society, and the ability and intention of traveling as more than a tourist.

Testimonial
Kayla Gagnon, 2013
"And, at the time, those experiences, being semi-stressful and overwhelming, but looking back and seeing how beautifully enriching and worthwhile those experiences and obstacles were. It was definitely really difficult to hear certain things and learn to not only bite my tongue, but to accept that this is just how it is culturally and find the beauty in that."

"There came a time when I went to a pueblo to speak in Mayan most of the time. And then I realized that the people that I was living with were so different from me that language was not the only barrier to understand them. But also, it was more about concepts and more about ways of living and more about choices in life. And again realizing that it went beyond language, it went beyond Spanish or Mayan."
